Ukraine's plan to close Russia's airspace — what we know
Ukraine wants to close Russia's skies and has a plan to do it. In an announcement on Sept. 1, President Volodymyr Zelensky gave few details about what it would entail, other than making clear it would involve lots of drones. "There will simply be drones in Russia's skies on a scale that has to be taken into account," he said, as he warned "every airline that uses Russian airspace" against flying over the country. About Kherson Oblast
Kherson Oblast in Ukraine’s south had a population of around 270,000 people at the beginning of 2022. Russia currently occupies about 73% of Kherson Oblast. The administrative center of the region is the city of Kherson, which was captured by Russia in February 2022 and liberated after eight and a half months.Kherson Oblast borders Mykolaiv Oblast, Zaporizhzhia Oblast, and Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.
