The energy ministers of the EU countries reached an agreement on the voluntary reduction of gas demand by 15% this winter "to prepare for possible disruptions of gas supplies from Russia that is continuously using energy supplies as a weapon," reads a European Council statement. The reduction may become mandatory in case of a "Union alert" on the security of supply, according to the Council.

The bill also bars the use of funds for actions recognizing Russia's sovereignty over Ukrainian territory and mandates the provision of intelligence to Ukraine in support of its military operations.
The number includes 1,300 casualties that Russian forces suffered over the past day.
Ukraine's military reportedly carried out drone attacks on various Russian regions overnight on June 12, striking multiple petrochemical plants as far as over 1,200 kilometers (620 miles) from the Russia-Ukraine border, Russian Telegram media channels reported.
Freuding's comments are the latest in a series of increasingly warnings from Western leaders and defense officials about the threat emanating from Russia and Europe's current lack of preparedness.

Ukrainian forces carried out at least 31 strikes against Russian refineries, oil export terminals, and pipeline infrastructure in May, the highest monthly total since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion.
The comments come as Ukraine has intensified its campaign against Russian logistics routes and military infrastructure connecting occupied Crimea to Russian-controlled territory.
