Russian attacks killed at least six and injured at least 26 people over the past day, as Moscow continues to strike Ukrainian civilians, Ukrainian authorities reported on Aug. 22.

In Kherson Oblast, three people were killed, and 13 were injured as Russian strikes damaged houses and apartments, the Kherson Military Administration reported. In the regional capital, Kherson, a Russian drone hit a shopping center, burning it to the ground. No victims were reported.

In Donetsk Oblast, Russian attacks killed one person and injured seven others, including five people in the front-line city of Kramatorsk, Donetsk Oblast Governor Vadym Filashkin reported.

In Sumy Oblast, a Russian drone hit a house, killing one man, while six people were injured in separate drone attacks in the region, including a 12-year-old boy after his house was hit by a drone and a 37-year-old man whose truck was targeted by another drone, the Sumy Oblast Military Administration reported.

In Kyiv, Russian forces launched an overnight wave of ballistic missiles, killing an employee of Ukrainian Railways, Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, Chairman of the Board of Ukrainian Railways, wrote on social media.

A Russian overnight Shahed attack also damaged a border crossing with Moldova in Odesa Oblast, the State Border Service reported. While the crossing was temporarily out of action, it has since been restored.

In total, Ukraine's air defense shot down or suppressed three surface-to-air missiles, six small cruise missiles, and 182 drones. As Russian attacks have intensified over the summer amid a shortage of  air defense in Ukraine, the Ukrainian Air Force has stopped reporting the exact number of missiles and drones launched by Russia.

"Every day that Ukraine lacks air defense is a day that results in casualties that could have been avoided. Protecting lives requires daily decisions and concrete support from the world, and right now, new supplies of ballistic missile interceptors and other missiles can make a difference," President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on social media on Aug. 22.

Russia's attacks in recent weeks have been devastating. On Aug. 21, a double-tap attack on a shopping center in Kryvyi Rih killed 16 people and injured 130. The day before, a mass combined missile and drone attack on Kyiv killed 15 people and injured dozens more.

Russian strikes on Ukraine's seaports are also strangling the country's economy by hindering critical export routes via the Black Sea.

Ukraine has stepped up attacks on Russian businesses, fueling its war machine, hitting a logistics center belonging to Ozon, Russia's second-largest online marketplace, on Aug. 22.

Since mid-July, Ukrainian drones have also repeatedly struck logistics centers operated by Wildberries, Russia's largest online marketplace. Ukrainian officials said the company sells goods to the Russian military.
