Several consecutive explosions were heard in Kyiv around 1 a.m. local time on Aug. 22, according to Kyiv Independent journalists on the ground. The explosions came just minutes after an air raid alert was issued.
A warehouse caught fire in Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district, local authorities reported. According to preliminary information, one person was killed and others were injured.
The latest attack comes two days after Russia launched a large-scale ballistic missile and drone strike on Kyiv shortly after midnight on Aug. 20, killing at least 15 people and injuring dozens more.
“It was a massive attack,” Zelensky said of the Aug. 20 strike in a post on social media. “The Russians had been preparing for a long time, combining different types of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones, aiming to cause as much damage as possible to civilian infrastructure.”
Russian missiles and drones struck 28 locations across the city during the Aug. 20 attack, according to the Air Force.
