
Ukraine's central bank raises key policy rate to 15.5%, warns about foreign policy risks
The move marks the second raise of the key policy rate since the beginning of 2025. In late January, the central bank raised it from 13.5% to 14.5%.

The move marks the second raise of the key policy rate since the beginning of 2025. In late January, the central bank raised it from 13.5% to 14.5%.
According to the plan, developed by former British Air Force planners in cooperation with Ukraine's Armed Forces, the protection zone would cover Ukraine's three operational nuclear power plants, as well as the cities of Odesa and Lviv in Ukraine's south and west.
"We see that it's not just the axis of evil and Russia trying to revise the world order, but the U.S. is finally destroying this order," said Valerii Zaluzhnyi, Ukraine's former commander-in-chief and current ambassador to the U.K.
Arsen Zhumadilov resigned from his position as chief of the State Rear Operator (DOT). Andrii Sozanskyi, DOT's executive director, replaced him as acting director.
A senior Ukrainian official told the NYT that the pause in intelligence sharing would make it more difficult for the Ukrainian forces to hit Russian targets. However, Kyiv had access to other satellite imagery, they added.
Ukrainian forces downed 68 out of the 112 drones, including Shahed-type attack drones, as well as two ballistic missiles of either the Iskander-M or the North Korean KN-23 model launched by Russia overnight, the Air Force reported.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio's remarks echo Kremlin narratives. Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin falsely claimed the West is fighting Russia "with the hands of Ukrainians."

"Our understanding is that they are most concerned about two things. The first thing is those oligarchs who are under U.S., EU, and U.K. sanctions because this is a real problem for them. And the second thing is what prevents Russia from making money — energy (sanctions)," said Vladyslav Vlasiuk, the president's commissioner for sanctions.
Apart from Ireland, Switzerland and Turkey also reportedly consider sending their troops to Ukraine. Russia opposed NATO peacekeepers in Ukraine, but the three nations are not members of the military alliance.
Ukrainian forces downed 107 out of 208 drones, including Shahed-type attack drones, launched by Russia overnight, the Air Force reported.
"I'm working closely with other European leaders on this, and I'm clear that the U.K. is ready to put boots on the ground and planes in the air to support a deal, working together with our allies, because that is the only way that peace will last," U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer said.
"I am not saying that Ukrainian forces caught some second, third, or 100th and 500th breath... But Russian troops have indeed begun to show some physical, moral, and material exhaustion," said Viktor Trehubov, a spokesperson for Ukraine's Khortytsia group of forces.
Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed that some Western countries are dissatisfied with the restoration of Russian-American relations and wants to "create instability in the world."
Russia's Defense Ministry claims that its troops continue to advance and push Ukrainian forces out of the salient. Kyiv has not commented on purportedly lost settlements in Kursk Oblast.
"According to their (Russia's) strategy, if they don't get out of this war by 2026, they lose even a chance for world leadership. They will be left with a maximum level of regional leadership, which they are absolutely not satisfied with," Ukraine's military intelligence (HUR) head Kyrylo Budanov said.
"Without this (Russia's recognition of the downing of MH17), there can be no lasting peace with Russia," the letter read.
"We could find ourselves in a situation where whether Russia wants to improve its relations with the U.S. or not, they can’t because they’ve become completely dependent on the Chinese because we have cut them off," said U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
A total of 51 million euros ($53 million) has already been raised, said Ruslan Berehulia, the head of the mine action department.
"We'll be announcing it very soon. It'll be 25% generally speaking, and that will be on cars and all other things," U.S. President Donald Trump said.
Russian troops are actively pushing on the Novopavlivka sector in eastern Donetsk Oblast, trying to break through Ukraine's defense and capture three settlements, according to Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi.
The U.S. version of the resolution, dubbed as the "Path to Peace," is aimed at ending the war, Suspilne reported. The draft reportedly does not name Russia the aggressor, but calls for "an immediate end to the conflict."
President Volodymyr Zelensky pushed back at the U.S.’ demand for a $500 billion deal for its natural resources, saying that the U.S.’s aid grants are not debts, during the Ukraine: Year 2025 forum in Kyiv on Feb. 23.
Umerov did not specify what the alternatives were or go into details about the discussions. Last month, the Digital Transformation Ministry told the Kyiv Independent that Starlinks were still a critical part of communication on the frontline and that a new order was underway.
“I am focusing on security today and not in 20 years time. I don’t plan to be in power for 10 years,” Zelensky told the forum.
Yulia Svyrydenko's comment comes as Kyiv and Washington negotiate a deal for Ukraine’s natural resources in return for support and security guarantees.
Andrii Sybiha noted that this is the goal of President Volodymyr Zelensky and told partners that “it is time to fasten our diplomatic seat belts” and “not give in to emotions.”
Some 53% of Danes are in favor of sending peacekeepers into the country after Russia's full-scale war ends, according to a poll, published by Ritzau news agency on Feb. 21, Bloomberg reported.
The EU is also looking to develop renewable energy faster to reduce its overall dependence on the fuel, EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jorgensen said.
Some 26.1% of Ukrainians said they completely approve Zelensky, while another 36.9% said they tend to approve him. The overall figure is higher than in polls conducted years before Russia's full-scale invasion, as well as in the spring of 2024.
According to the Ukrainian military intelligence, Russia aims to sow despair among Ukrainians, destabilize the situation in the country, and discredit Ukraine among its allies.
"The only way is to test them (Russia), to basically engage them and say, okay, are you serious about ending the war, and if so, what are your demands. Are your public demands and your private demands different?" U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said. "It may turn out that they don’t want to end the war."
