
Ukraine approves 'electronic warfare resistant' domestic-made Chaklun drone for military use

According to HUR, Ukrainian soldiers captured a Russian battalion defense area, destroyed three motorized rifle battalions, a Storm platoon, and a reconnaissance company of Russia's Seventh Separate Motorized Rifle Regiment.
U.S. President Joe Biden is expected to meet the leaders of Germany, France, and the U.K. in Berlin later this week after his earlier visit was postponed due to Hurricane Milton, CNN reported on Oct. 16, citing three unnamed Western officials.

Sixty drones were "lost" due to electronic warfare in a number of regions, while 20 more drones were flying over Ukraine at the time of publication, according to the statement. Two more drones flew back toward Russia.
A total of 48% of voters who said they would vote early in so-called swing states supported Trump, while 47% sided with Harris, according to a Harvard CAPS/Harris poll. Another 5% said they went with another choice or had not yet voted.
Hundreds of Ukrainian schools, businesses, embassies, administrative buildings, and media outlets, including the Kyiv Independent, received bomb threats via email on Oct. 14, prompting evacuations of state institutions.
Ukrainian forces downed 12 out of 17 Shahed-type drones launched by Russia overnight, the Air Force reported. Seven S-300/400 missiles were also fired against Mykolaiv Oblast and two Kh-59 missiles against Chernihiv Oblast overnight.

Ukraine's presidential adviser Dmytro Lytvyn's reaction came after almost a week of silence after Ukrainska Pravda claimed that the Ukrainian government is exerting "systematic pressure" against one of Ukraine’s biggest news media sites.
"Now the town looks more like a desert planet: there are no shelters for civilians or soldiers," said Anastasia Bobovnikova, a spokesperson of the Operational Tactical Group Luhansk.
One Ukrainian company sneaked in Kursk Oblast in groups of six soldiers and hid in the forest, Pavlo Rozlach, Ukraine's 80th Air Assault Brigade's commander, said.
"There can be no appeasement for Russia when it continues its attempts to solve the 'problem' of Ukraine’s very existence," Ukraine's Foreign Ministry said.
The attack damaged two civilian vessels — NS Moon flying the flag of Belize and the Palau-flagged OPTIMA, Odesa Oblast Governor Oleh Kiper said. Russia targeted the latter last week on Oct. 7.
When asked by the Kyiv Independent about the alleged seizure of Levadne, Voloshyn said that the situation "is developing quite dynamically" and each of the sides can regain the initiative.
The lull came after Russia attacked Ukraine with more than 1,300 Shahed kamikaze drones in September, targeting settlements across the country on a daily basis for an entire month. This daily trend has continued for the first days of October.
Russian attacks against Ukraine killed five people and injured eight others over the past day, regional authorities said on Oct. 14.
"There is no benefit to our nations or the world to forestall progress on reducing nuclear arsenals. Reducing the nuclear threat is important not despite the dangers of today’s world but precisely because of them," President Joe Biden said.
"Such Soviet aircraft are used, in particular, to transport the leadership of the Russian Defense Ministry," Ukraine's military intelligence said.
"The destruction of the Shahed drones storage base will significantly reduce the ability of the Russian occupiers to terrorize civilians in Ukrainian cities and villages," Ukraine's General Staff said.
"I will meet separately in each country with the leaders of Britain, France, and Germany. I will try to be swift, and then I will present the victory plan to all our partners at Ramstein," President Volodymyr Zelensky said.
The MiG-31K landing is the first in a year and a half. In April 2023, three Russian MiG-31Ks left the country and have not been spotted there since then, the Belaruski Hajun monitoring group reported.
"In October, November and December we have a real chance to move things toward peace and lasting stability. The situation on the battlefield creates an opportunity to make this choice — the choice for decisive action to end the war no later than in 2025," President Volodymyr Zelensky.
"France is the first country to train a full-fledged Ukrainian brigade on its territory. This initiative is unparalleled in terms of the number of trained soldiers and the duration of the training," the French Embassy in Kyiv said.
"Announcements about future Ukraine Defense Contact Group meetings will be forthcoming," the Ramstein Air Base said in a statement.
Russia has stolen more than 180,000 tons of Ukrainian grain through the port of the occupied city of Mariupol in Donetsk Oblast alone, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said at a government meeting on Oct. 8.

Biden was supposed to convene a leader-level meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in Germany on Oct. 12, where President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to present his victory plan.
"We believe that this issue, the prolongation of the Russian sanctions, should be decided after the U.S. elections. We have to see in which direction the future U.S. administration is going with this issue," Hungarian Finance Minister Mihaly Varga said.
Russian forces attacked a densely populated area of the city of Kharkiv with guided aerial bombs on Oct. 8, killing at least two people and injuring five others, local authorities reported.
"That is, the enemy's forces had superiority in tanks and infantry fighting vehicles, artillery systems, anti-tank weapons, and personnel," said Oleksandr Okhrimenko, commander of the 72nd Mechanized Brigade.
