UK to provide Ukraine with $59 million defense aid package

A bipartisan group of U.S. senators urged Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth in a May 23 letter to release a previously approved $400 million aid package for Ukraine that has been delayed for months.

"(I)t would be fairer if within NATO, and particularly the European part of NATO, we could see other Allies also stepping up," NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said.

A fire broke out at a fuel terminal in the southern Russian city of Novorossiysk overnight on May 23, local authorities and media channels reported.

"We continue to increase the rate at which Russian personnel are being eliminated," President Volodymyr Zelensky said.

The news comes after Kyiv dismissed a proposal by Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko to meet President Volodymyr Zelensky amid surging tensions between Ukraine and the Belarusian regime.
