Viazovska, 37, is a Kyiv-born and raised professor at the Ecole polytechnique federale de Lausanne in Switzerland. She is the second woman in history to receive the Fields Medal, often described as the Nobel Prize of mathematics.
The visit comes only a day after one of Russia's heaviest attacks killed over 20 people and injured over 100 across Ukraine.
