Politico: Upcoming US midterm elections cause uncertainty over future funding to Ukraine

The capital saw eight more air raid alerts by the morning of Aug. 28 as Russian forces continued attacking Kyiv and the surrounding areas overnight.

Russia launched 164 Shahed-type drones against Ukraine, half of them jet-powered, overnight on Aug. 28, according to the Air Force. Ukrainian air defenses intercepted 137 drones, while strikes were recorded at 16 locations and drone debris fell at four others.

Later in the morning, Ukraine's Air Force announced that seven Russian Iskander-M or North Korean-built KN-23 ballistic missiles had been shot down.

The target of the attack was the Slavneft-YANOS refinery, one of Russia's largest oil processing facilities, the General Staff said, adding that damage to the refinery was still being assessed.

The figure includes 1,630 casualties that Russian forces suffered over the past day.

"I am not concerned ... at all. There is no problem," Trump told Axios when asked about a possible Russian provocation against NATO countries.

The sounds of explosions, air defense fire, and jet-powered drones filled the air in Kyiv on Aug. 27, as an hours-long aerial barrage once again targeted Ukraine's capital.

The attack caused critical damage to the plant, which supplies heat to a significant number of residential buildings in Kherson.

"The threat posed by Russia and possible provocations against NATO must be taken seriously, and that is precisely what the allies are doing," Estonia's Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna told the Kyiv Independent. "We must remain vigilant, but Estonia's threat assessment has not changed."

Kyiv has been vocal in recent weeks about the threat of another wave of Russian mobilization.
