Media: Hungary wants EU to lift sanctions from oligarchs close to Putin

Ukraine's military launched an attack on Russia's Tver Oblast overnight on Oct. 9, reportedly targeting a Russian factory that manufactures fuel components for Kh-55 and Kh-101 cruise missiles, Russian Telegram media channels reported.

The latest announcement comes as Kyiv experienced widespread power outages on Oct. 8 following a Russian attack on Ukrainian energy infrastructure. Over 3 million residents in the capital lost power in what officials described as "an attack on one of the energy facilities important for the city of Kyiv."

Under the U.K.'s National Security Act 2023, junior intelligence specialist Teddy Young, 24, was charged with two offenses for allegedly trying to pass protected information to a foreign power between November 2024 and May 2025.

The railway operator initially reported that the passenger train's driver suffered a leg injury and four passengers required medical attention. The crew of the electric locomotive was unharmed.

The acclaimed journalist was reportedly on an editorial assignment in Vienna with his colleague Yaroslav Bondarenko when he was detained by Austrian authorities.

"We certainly are capable," Zelensky said about striking Russian data centers. "We always respond in kind. Regarding data centers, as you all know, they have been and still are striking our data centers."

"Meetings are expected to take place over two days... we are counting on a European team to join our negotiating group," President Volodymyr Zelensky said.

Initial reports raised concerns that 28-year-old Darya Shipilova, who worked at the Anti-Plague Institute, might have died of pneumonic plague after a laboratory accident.

"Russia comes to the Ukrainian land with death," Donetsk Governor Vadym Filashkin said.

The drop in voltage temporarily halted Kyiv Metro train services and escalator operations, the Kyiv City State Administration (KMDA) said. Other parts of the capital's public transport network were also affected.

At 10:00 a.m. local time, Ukraine’s biggest private energy firm DTEK announced emergency energy shutdowns in Brovary, Buchanskyi, Vyshgorod, and Boryspil districts of the capital.

"The government looks forward to the smooth resolution of all pending issues between the two countries and will continue consultations with the Ukrainian side to this end," the South Korean Foreign Ministry said in a press release.

"If this winter in Ukraine is as difficult as the whole world expects, we are ready to receive as many people as need safety," Moldovan President Maia Sandu said at the Moldova Security Forum in Chisinau on Oct. 8.
