Russian forces struck a five-story residential building in Zaporizhzhia with guided aerial bombs early on Oct. 10, killing four people and injuring four others, regional officials reported.

The attack partially destroyed one entrance to the apartment building, causing sections of the structure to collapse to the second floor, according to Mykhailo Semikin, acting head of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast Military Administration.

Three people sustained minor injuries, while another was hospitalized, Semikin said. The condition of the hospitalized victim was not immediately known.

Rescue workers pulled two residents from beneath the rubble, including a woman and a man, as emergency crews continued searching the damaged building.

"One more person may still be under the rubble," Semikin said in an update at approximately 7:05 a.m. local time.

Ukraine's Air Force warned at around 5 a.m. that Russian tactical aircraft had launched guided aerial bombs toward Zaporizhzhia.

The full extent of the damage remained unclear as search-and-rescue operations continued.

The attack came a day after Russian guided aerial bombs struck residential areas of Zaporizhzhia on Oct. 9, killing at least one person and injuring seven others, including a child, according to regional officials.

Russian forces have repeatedly targeted Zaporizhzhia, a southeastern Ukrainian city near the front line, with guided aerial bombs, drones and missiles.

Russia has occupied parts of Zaporizhzhia Oblast since the beginning of its full-scale invasion in February 2022, while the regional capital remains under Ukrainian control.
