Zelensky: Tens of thousands killed in Mariupol.

In an address to the South Korean parliament, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the worst situation with hostilities is in Mariupol, a seaport in southern Ukraine that has been sieged by Russian troops since March 1. He said that Mariupol was destroyed and that the Russians did not stop the offensive.

Russian oil embargo could be part of sixth round of EU sanctions.

The Foreign Ministers of Ireland, Lithuania and the Netherlands said on April 11 that the EU is drafting proposals for the bloc's oil embargo on Russia, although there is still no agreement regarding the measure. "The EU is spending hundreds of millions of euros on importing oil from Russia, which is certainly contributing to financing this war. We need to cut off that financing. The sooner, the better," said Irish Foreign Minister Simon Coveney, as quoted by Reuters.

Ukrinform: Temporary bridge from suburbs to Kyiv opened.

The 245-meter bridge connecting liberated Irpin, Bucha, Hostomel, and Vorzel with Kyiv will be used to deliver humanitarian aid and construction materials, Ukrinform agency reported. It will serve as a temporary substitute for the bridge in Irpin that was blown up by the Ukrainian forces to block Russian troops from advancing towards Kyiv.

Kharkiv Oblast shelled 66 times over past 24 hours, 11 people killed.

Kharkiv Oblast Governor Oleh Synehubov said that Russian forces had used artillery, mortars, and multiple launch rocket systems to attack residential neighborhoods of the region. As a result of the shellings, 11 people were killed, including a seven-year-old child, and another 14 were injured.

Armed Forces: Russia lost around 19,500 troops in Ukraine since Feb 24.

According to Ukraine’s Armed Forces, Russia has lost around 19,500 troops, 725 tanks, 1,923 armored combat vehicles, 347 pieces of artillery, 111 rocket launcher systems, 55 air defense systems, 154 aircraft, 137 helicopters, 76 fuel tanks, and seven ships during its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Sullivan: Russia ‘planned’ attacks on civilians in Ukraine.

In an interview with ABC News on April 10, U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said that available intelligence “indicated that there was a plan from the highest levels of the Russian government to target civilians who oppose the invasion.”

The Times: Finland, Sweden set to join NATO as soon as summer.

Officials are quoted as having said that Russia made a “massive strategic blunder,” as the two countries are forecasted to join the alliance in the coming months. NATO membership for Finland and Sweden was reportedly “a topic of conversation and multiple sessions” during talks last week.

In a “60 Minutes” interview with CBS on April 10, President Volodymyr Zelensky said the world is responsible for what is happening in Ukraine, comparing its inaction to that of countries that stood aside during the Second World War. “Are those countries who did not participate in the war responsible? The countries who let German forces march through Europe? Does the world carry responsibility for the genocide? Yes. Yes, it does.”

New York Times: Russia will likely wage an offensive between Izium and Dnipro.

U.S. analysts predict Russian troops will carry out a major offensive from Izium to the central city of Dnipro, a strategic target in Donbas region, unnamed U.S. military officials said on April 10. The assessment came as satellite images showed hundreds of military vehicles moving towards the city of Izium, located some 230 km east of Dnipro. Russian forces need Izium to hold their western-forward battle lines.

World Bank predicts Ukraine’s economy to shrink by almost half in 2022.

Ukraine’s economy is on course to contract by over 45% this year as Russia's full-scale invasion and the impact of a “deep humanitarian crisis” takes its toll, the World Bank said on April 10 in a new report. The organization also forecasts Russia’s 2022 GDP output to fall 11.2% due to financial sanctions.

“Currently, one guard is injured,” Mykolaiv Oblast Governor Vitaly Kim said. He added that authorities are checking if a missile hit the city.

Over 2,800 people evacuated from war zones on April 10.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk, over 2,400 people arrived in the regional capital Zaporizhzhia from the region’s southern cities occupied by Russia. Evacuation from Mariupol and Luhansk Oblast was stalled due to the ongoing Russian offensive.

Russia's crude exports fall to lowest level since February.

Seaborne crude flows averaged 3.12 million barrels a day over the four weeks to July 6, a 3% decline from the previous period ending June 29, according to tanker-tracking data compiled by Bloomberg. That's the lowest level recorded since the four-week period ending Feb. 23.
