How the Destruction of the Hydroelectric Power Plant Changed Ukraine, examines the long-term consequences of the June 6, 2023 destruction of the Kakhovka Dam, which Ukrainian officials have called Europe's worst environmental disaster since Chornobyl. Vitali Klitschko is a former world heavyweight boxing champion who has served as Kyiv's mayor since 2014. Born on July 19, 1971, Klitschko remained in Kyiv during Russia's assault on Kyiv in 2022, coordinating civil defense and humanitarian efforts.
