Ukraine sets up special camp for Russian POWs.

According to Justice Minister Denys Malyuska, the camp has been set up in one of the country’s western regions for Russians who are not going to be exchanged in the near future. POWs are being held in accordance with the Geneva Convention with “slightly better nutrition and slightly better hygiene” compared to ordinary prisoners, Malyuska said.

General Staff: Ukrainian troops block Russia from seizing strategic road in Donbas.

The road links the cities of Bakhmut in Donetsk Oblast and Sievierodonetsk in Luhansk Oblast. Ukraine's General Staff said that Ukrainian troops keep control of Sievierodonetsk, and fighting is taking place in the eastern part of the city. Ukrainian troops have also repelled a Russian attack near the village of Voronove near Sievierodonetsk, according to the General Staff.

Zelensky: More than 2,500 Mariupol defenders in Russian captivity.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said that it was not in the interest of Russia to torture the defenders of Mariupol evacuated from the Azovstal steel plant because they had become "public prisoners." U.K.'s Ministry of Defense earlier said that up to 1,700 defenders of the city had been evacuated from the Azovstal plant in Mariupol.

Health Ministry: Risk of cholera in Mariupol.

Mass burials and lack of access to drinking water lead to a critical situation in Russian-occupied Mariupol, Deputy Health Minister Ihor Kuzin said on June 6. The Health Ministry began monitoring suspected cases of cholera in the region on June 1.

More people coming back than leaving Ukraine for 27 days in a row.

The total number of people who returned to Ukraine reached about 184,000 people for this period, according to the State Border Guard Service. Almost 31,000 people left Ukraine while almost 40,000 came back to the country on June 5. According to UNHCR, as of June 1, almost 7 million people fled the invasion Russia started on Feb. 24.

Latvia bans all Russian TV channels until end of war in Ukraine.

Latvia said it will take 80 Russian TV channels off-air until the end of Russia's war in Ukraine and return of the occupied Crimea peninsula to Ukraine. The Chairman of the Latvian National Electronic Media Council cited legislation that stipulates prohibition of broadcasting programs registered in the country that threaten another country's independence and territorial integrity. The decision comes into force on June 9.

Luhansk Oblast governor: Ukrainian position in Sievierodonetsk worsens amid heavy fighting.

According to Serhiy Haidai, after recapturing half of the city during a recent counteroffensive, the Ukrainian military in Sievierodonetsk is under renewed attack, holding positions in the industrial part of the city. The Russian tactic “is to wipe everything off the face of the earth, so there would be nothing to defend,” he said, adding that the level of damage in several settlements in the oblast could be compared to Mariupol.

Russian governor claims border village fired upon.

Kursk Oblast Governor Roman Starovoit claimed that the village of Tyotkino in Russia’s western Kursk region came under fire early on June 6. Starovoit reported via Telegram app that a bridge and some local businesses were hit. There is no immediate information about casualties.

Tsikhanouskaya: Nearly 1,500 Belarusians are fighting against Russia in Ukraine.

Leader of the Belarusian opposition Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya told Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera that when the war broke out, "many people in Belarus thought that Ukrainians needed help, so battalions were organized." "There are now about 1,500 people (fighting). They are... in different cities, under the supervision of the Ukrainian army," Tsikhanouskaya said.

Institute for the Study of War: Ukraine’s ability to attack Russian troops in Sievierodonetsk suggests Moscow’s declining combat power.

The Washington-based think tank said in an update on June 5, that Ukrainian forces continued to conduct limited and localized but successful counterattacks against Russian positions throughout Ukraine, including retaking large areas of Luhansk Oblast's Sievierodonetsk where Russia has concentrated the majority of its forces. The institute predicts that Ukrainian counteroffensive pressure will likely continue to draw the attention of Russian forces to Luhansk Oblast, leaving Russian defensive efforts vulnerable in Kharkiv Oblast and along the southern front lines.

Lavrov cancels Serbia visit as neighboring countries close airspace.

Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov could not make the trip to Serbia as North Macedonia, Bulgaria and Montenegro closed their airspace to Russia's aircraft. Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry confirmed that NATO and European Union nations bordering Serbia banned Lavrov's flight to Belgrade.

Zelensky visits Ukraine's frontline positions in Soledar, Lysychansk.

President Volodymyr Zelensky has said he visited two cities near the frontline of battles against the Russian army after meeting troops in Zaporizhzhia Oblast. "I went with the head of [my] office to the east. We were in Lysychansk and Soledar," Zelensky said in his nightly address. "I am proud of everybody I met, everyone I shook hands with, everyone with whom I connected with and had expressed my support." The city of Soledar is in Donetsk Oblast and Lysychansk is in the Luhansk region.

Almost 60% of Zaporizhzhia Oblast occupied by Russian troops.

Governor Oleksandr Starukh told President Volodymyr Zelensky during his visit to the region on June 5 that fighting is ongoing in some areas of the oblast. According to Starukh, Russian forces have destroyed 2,701 infrastructure sites in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, and almost 700 of them have already been restored. Also, 77 towns and villages in Zaporizhzhia Oblast remain cut off from electricity due to the fighting.

Ukrainian drones strike missile, drone arsenal in Russia's Bryansk Oblast.

Ukraine's military intelligence (HUR) struck on June 28 the 1060th Material-Technical Support Center in the city of Bryansk, Ukraine's General Staff said. The facilities store a Russian missile and drone arsenal, Ukrainska Pravda reported, citing a source in HUR.
