Forged from the remnants of the Soviet Spetsnaz, Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces have become a vital pillar of the country’s current defense, playing their role in some of the war’s most decisive engagements – from Kyiv to Donbas, and to Kursk Oblast in Russia. Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022, they have had to learn and adapt, as the rise of the war of drones transformed what was understood to be achievable by special forces, for better or for worse.
"Denys Shmyhal's extensive experience will definitely be valuable in the position of Ukraine’s defense minister," President Volodymyr Zelensky said.

The Kyiv Independent asked teens in Ukraine aged between 14 and 17 about their experiences during Russia's war.
"From the EU perspective, the talks are about more than three Patriot systems for Ukraine," a German government spokesperson said.
Russian troops launched drone attacks on Kharkiv and Sumy oblasts on July 14, killing one person and injuring at least 21, local authorities reported.

The deployment took place in Sumy Oblast, a northeastern region bordering Russia that has recently faced renewed Moscow's attempts to advance.
