Russian attacks killed at least eight people and injured at least 43 across Ukraine over the past day, as the country marked the 35th anniversary of its independence on Aug. 24, local authorities said.
Russia launched two Oniks anti-ship missiles, six Kh-31P and Kh-59 guided air-launched missiles, as well as 143 drones overnight on Aug. 24, according to Ukraine's Air Force. Around a third of the drones were jet-powered, the Air Force said.
Air defenses downed one Oniks missile, two Kh-31P and Kh-59 missiles, two Banderol munitions, and 109 drones. Strikes were recorded at 22 locations, while debris from intercepted drones and missiles fell at five locations.
In Kharkiv Oblast, Russian drones struck railway infrastructure in the Lozova community overnight, killing two women and injuring six other people, including an 11-year-old girl, local authorities said.
The girl, whose mother was among those killed, was in serious condition with burns, while five other people suffered blast injuries.
Russian attacks killed five people and injured 17 others, including two children, in Kharkiv and 16 other settlements across the oblast over the past day, Governor Oleh Syniehubov said.
In Donetsk Oblast, Russian attacks killed two people and injured one in Kramatorsk, while six others were wounded elsewhere in the region over the past day, Governor Vadym Filashkin said.
In Sumy Oblast, one person was killed and 12 others injured in Russian attacks, according to local authorities. Russian forces carried out more than 50 attacks against 25 settlements in the region.
In Zaporizhzhia Oblast, three people were injured in attacks on Zaporizhzhia and the surrounding district, Governor Ivan Fedorov said. Russian forces carried out 518 strikes against 38 settlements across the oblast over the past day.
In Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, three people were injured as Russian forces attacked three districts nearly 30 times using drones, artillery, and a guided aerial bomb, local authorities said.
In Chernihiv Oblast, a 59-year-old gas station employee was injured after a Russian Geran drone struck a facility in Korop, according to local Governor Vyacheslav Chaus.
