Hennadiy Lahuta, the governor of Kherson Oblast, said on June 1 that Ukraine's Armed Forces had liberated more than 20 settlements in the north of the region largely occupied by Russia. According to Lahuta, the Ukrainian troops continue to advance further south.

The visit comes only a day after one of Russia's heaviest attacks killed over 20 people and injured over 100 across Ukraine.
