Journalist: Russia mined commercial routes in Black Sea.

Andriy Klymenko, the chief editor of news site BlackSeaNews, said on March 19, citing his sources, that Russia had deployed the naval mines along the route from the Bosphorus to Odesa in the northwestern part of the Black Sea. Meanwhile, Russia issued a warning to ships claiming that the mines have been deployed by Ukraine at its ports and are now drifting.

Military imposes 38-hour curfew in Zaporizhzhia.

The curfew will begin at 4 p.m. on March 19 and will end at 6 a.m. March 21. A day prior, Russian shelling killed 9 people and injured 17 on the outskirts of the regional capital Zaporizhzhia.

10 humanitarian corridors to open on March 19. 

Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk said that this will include evacuation from the besieged port city of Mariupol, cities in Luhansk and Kherson oblasts, and several cities northwest of Kyiv. Delivery of humanitarian convoys to various war-torn cities will also take place.

Ukraine: Peace talks with Russia could last 'several weeks'.

According to Mykhailo Podolyak, advisor to President Volodymyr Zelensky’s chief of staff, there are signs that Moscow’s position became more “adequate” but negotiations on issues such as security guarantees, withdrawal of Russian troops and a ceasefire "may take longer." “There are concessions that we are definitely not going to make,” he added.

Kyiv air quality is at unhealthy level.

Air quality index (AQI) reports early on March 19 that pollutant concentration in Kyiv air is currently 27.8 times above the WHO annual air quality guideline value. Over the past 24 hours, there were at least 21 fire reports in Kyiv Oblast due to grass fires.

Norway prepares to welcome up to 100,000 Ukrainian refugees.

Reuters, citing Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr Støre, reported on March 18 that Norway expects around 30,000 Ukrainian refugees, but is preparing to accommodate up to 100,000. If numbers approach the upper limit, Norway will convert sports arenas and warehouses into temporary housing.

US bans maintenance of 100 aircraft used by Russia.

A U.S. Department of Commerce report published on March 18 said the identified commercial and private aircraft continued to fly to Russia despite sanctions, violating U.S. export controls. One of the planes belongs to Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on March 18 assistance for Ukrainians displaced by the Russian aggression. The proposed program will provide employment support those who have relocated, provision for housing and housing reconstruction after the war, and support for those who have housed temporarily displaced persons.

General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces said late on March 18 it lost access to the Sea of Azov "temporarily" as Russian forces were tightening their grip around the Sea's port city of Mariupol.

Russian war against Ukraine may push 40 million people into “extreme poverty”.

A March 18 analysis posted by the U.S. think tank Center for Global Development indicates that food commodity prices since Russia’s full-scale invasion are higher than the price spikes of 2007 and 2010. It notes “immediate concern” for direct importers of Ukrainian and Russian wheat, including Egypt, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, and Turkey.

Sumy receives first UN aid convoy.

Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said in a statement on March 18 that it “hopes this is the first of many shipments.” The aid convoy includes 130 metric tonnes of essential aid for around 35,000 people and supplies to repair water systems to help an estimated 50,000 people.

Russian attacks kill 7, injure 23 in Ukraine over past day.

Russia launched two Iskander-M or North Korean KN-23 ballistic missiles, an S-300 anti-aircraft missile, and 47 Shahed-type attack drones and decoy drones against Ukraine overnight, primarily targeting Chernihiv Oblast, Ukraine's Air Force reported.
