Tatarstan oil refinery targeted as Russia claims 456 Ukrainian drones intercepted overnight

Ukrainian forces struck a Russian oil refinery in Tatarstan and hit military targets in occupied Ukrainian territories overnight on Aug. 10, while Russia claimed its air defenses intercepted 456 Ukrainian drones across the country.
Russia's Defense Ministry claimed that its air defenses intercepted 456 Ukrainian drones overnight across 16 Russian regions, Moscow, the occupied Crimean Peninsula, and the Krasnodar Krai, according to their statement.
Eyewitnesses posted footage of drones flying over the Russian city of Nizhnekamsk in the Republic of Tatarstan as an oil refinery was targeted by Ukrainian forces, according to Telegram channel Supernova Plus.
The drone attack on Nizhnekamsk reportedly killed 12 people and injured 39, according to the press service of Tatarstan's head Rustam Minnikhanov.
The Ukrainian General Staff later confirmed the strike on Taneco, saying a fire was recorded at the refinery in Nizhnekamsk. The extent of the damage was not immediately clear.
In Russia's Belgorod Oblast, a woman was reportedly killed in the village of Novaya Tavolzhanka in the Shebekino district after a drone struck the grounds of a private home, according to the regional operational headquarters.
The Kyiv Independent could not independently verify the reported casualty figures.
In Crimea's Simferopol, parts of the city were temporarily left without power after explosions and gunfire were heard amid a drone attack, pro-Ukrainian Telegram channel Crimean Wind reported, citing local residents.
The Ukrainian General Staff also said Ukrainian forces struck a repair unit in the occupied city of Khrustalnyi in Luhansk Oblast, a Russian military logistics depot in Novoselidivka in Donetsk Oblast, and a field artillery depot in Boikove, also in Donetsk Oblast.
The extent of the damage is being assessed.
Ukraine regularly strikes military infrastructure deep within Russia and the occupied territories in an effort to diminish Moscow's ability to continue waging its war.
On the night of Aug. 8, Ukrainian forces struck an S-400 "Triumph" anti-aircraft missile launch pad in Russia's Krasnodar Krai, hours after it was used to fire missiles at Ukraine, Unmanned Systems Forces Commander Robert Brovdi "Madyar" announced.
Early on Aug. 8, Ukraine struck an oil refinery in Samara Oblast and another in southern Russia's Krasnodar Krai, monitoring channels reported.
A fire broke out at an oil refinery in Syzran in Russia's Samara Oblast after being struck by Ukrainian forces, according to Telegram channel Exilenova Plus.
Another oil refinery in the town of Ilsky, Krasnodar Krai, was struck and set ablaze amid a Ukrainian attack, Supernova Plus reported.
Ukraine's General Staff later confirmed that long-range Ukrainian drones hit two oil refineries in Russia's Krasnodar Krai and Samara Oblast.
