Inside a prison where Russia tortured Ukrainian POWs
The Olenivka POW camp, located in the Russian-occupied part of Donetsk Oblast, was a notorious Russian-controlled prison where Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilian hostages from Mariupol have been subjected to torture. The Kyiv Independent’s War Crimes Investigations Unit will name those responsible for torturing prisoners in Olenivka.

Valeriia Snopkova

Newsroom Assistant

Valeriia Snopkova is a newsroom assistant at the Kyiv Independent. Before joining the team, she worked as a project manager at Shche, a social media management and content bureau. Valeriia has also worked as a project assistant at The School of Equal Opportunities, an NGO focused on initiatives for Ukraine’s youth. She has an undergraduate degree in journalism and is completing a master’s degree in advertising and public relations at Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University.
